Scheduled over school breaks so your student’s time off goes toward admission.
An MCVSD Prep Rally is a 4.5-hour program that targets one of the core areas tested on the MCVSD entrance exam. Rooted in the NJSLS published by the MCVSD, the four class types we developed make sure all of your bases are covered for test day.
Choose which areas you want to focus on. Feeling confident in math but have always struggled with longer narrative passages on timed exams? Preparing for Prose might be for you. Or maybe you're in Geometry as an eighth grader and don't remember some of the core concepts from pre-algebra. Algebra Essentials might be just the refresher you're looking for.
Use your student's time off from school to maximize their chances of admission! We scheduled these classes during common school breaks:
Two ELA and two Math classes, each built around one core area of the exam.
Covers material on narrative and poetry passages. Students review test-taking strategies for these genres and learn about literary devices.
Covers core concepts in punctuation, sentence structure and classification, verb tense and agreement, paragraph organization and transitions, and informational passages with data displays.
Covers the core pre-algebra and beginner algebra concepts commonly tested on the exam. This includes a range of concepts from order of operations and ratios/proportions/percents to an introduction of linear functions.
Covers the geometry and statistics material taught in pre-algebra—things like properties of circles and triangles, one-variable statistics, and probability.
Every Prep Rally follows the same 4.5-hour format.
Students learn and review the targeted topic of that Prep Rally.
Students complete a problem set that simulates the pacing of the real MCVSD exam and tests their knowledge of the class topic.
Students choose from activities like coloring, a short game with other students and tutors, or just relaxing before the next class. (We heard some locations might even have a waffle maker on the premises…) It's a Prep Rally after all — it's supposed to be a little fun!
We grade each student's problem set. Students first review their results on their own through their accounts on foleyprep.com, then work through their mistakes in breakout groups.
Attend 4 sessions between 11/5 and 11/29 and 4 more during winter break to get the most out of every version of this class!
