Common Questions

How much can my student's SAT score improve?
According to a comprehensive study, Foley Prep's 1-on-1 and small group students gain an average of 220 points on the SAT® after completing 10 hours of tutoring and 3+ practice tests. View our full results data.
Which package should we choose?
It depends on your student's starting score, goal score, and schedule. Use the Compare Services tool next to the packages above to see what each includes, or contact us and a program manager will recommend the right fit.
Should my student take the SAT or ACT?
The best way to decide is to take a full-length diagnostic practice test for both. Our program managers analyze the results and recommend the test where your student will perform best.
Do SAT scores really matter for college admissions?
Yes. A recent study by economists at Dartmouth and Brown found standardized test scores are four times more predictive of first-year success at Ivy-Plus colleges than high school GPA — with no bias against less advantaged students. Curious? Read the paper.
When should my student start preparing?
Many families start prep a year in advance. We recommend no fewer than 3 months of prep before your first official test — enough time for multiple practice tests and targeted instruction on your student's weakest areas.
Can I use my 529 Plan for SAT prep?
Yes! All Foley Prep services, including SAT prep, are 529 Plan eligible. We provide detailed receipts for easy reimbursement from your education savings plan. Learn more about using your 529 Plan.
