On May 16, 2019, we completed a thorough study on the effectiveness of our program. The results are THRILLING!

METHODOLOGY

The following criteria were used to select a sample of 224 students for Foley Prep’s SAT study.

  1. Students who took at least three full-length practice tests under officially-timed conditions OR students did two programs worth of prep at Foley Prep but only took two practice tests.
  2. Students who completed one of the following Foley Prep programs:

  • 30 Day unlimited Package
  • Summer Blitz Pass
  • 10 Small-Group Session Package
  • Silver Package
  • Gold Package
  • 10 Hour Tutoring Package

3. Students were not active during the months of March and April 2019 (this is when the data were collected).

The increase in score due to Foley Prep’s program was calculated by taking the difference between the lowest score and highest score received on a practice test at Foley Prep. Official College Board released tests were administered under officially-timed conditions at a Foley Prep hub. This method results in a lower number than if we were to start with a student’s PSAT as a baseline … we believe it is more fair to compare a student’s performance on an SAT taken later than the PSAT, which is generally lower.

The resulting sample size of 224 qualifying students had an average score increase of 149.9 points (standard deviation 69.8 within a possible SAT score range of 400-1600). A 1-sample confidence interval was constructed using a 5% significance level (95% confidence). The confidence interval bounds were 140.7 to 159.1 (149.9 ± 9.2).

The average 149.9 point increase from the lowest to highest SAT score on mock SATs taken at Foley does not take into effect the “Game Day Effect”, which is the difference between a student’s top score on a Foley mock SAT and their actual top SAT score after Foley. Using the method described below, we are 95% confident that the true mean of the “Game Day Effect” lies between 48.4 and 85.8. We then added the mean of that calculation, 67.14 (“Game Day Effect”) + 149.9 (Average increase on Foley Practice Exams) = 217.07, which we then rounded to 220.

We will publish a white paper describing our method soon, but we stand by these results as very fair, and very exciting! Our method is also transparent, unlike so many other companies that make score increase claims.

Game Day Effect: Students Do Better On The Actual SAT Than Foley Practice Tests
With a sample size of 224 qualifying students an average score increase of 149.9 points (standard deviation 69.8) was calculated. A 1-sample confidence interval was constructed using a 5% significance level (95% confidence). The confidence interval bounds were 140.7 to 159.1 (149.9 ± 9.2).
Foley Prep finds that on test day, students perform better than when taking practice tests at Foley Prep. The 224 students we sampled were called and asked for their actual SAT superscore after completing a Foley Prep program. 49 of the 224 surveyed students responded with their official SAT scores. The average increase between highest practice test at Foley Prep and actual SAT score was calculated. The average increase in score on test day for these students was 67.1 (standard deviation 50.7). A 1-sample confidence interval was constructed using a 5% significance level (95% confidence) The confidence interval bounds were 48.4 to 85.8 (67.1±18.7)
