Foley Prep ACT Notables
Take the December 2019 ACT as a mock test this weekend
ACT Boot Camp is Monday-Friday next week
Dear Foley Prep Family,
We get excited whenever we get exam booklets from recent tests – it gives us time to examine the problems thoroughly and be sure that the prep we deliver predicts what will be on future exams.
Last weekend, our students began to bring in their ACT exam booklets from the December 2019 test, which gives us an accurate look into how the ACT is designing its problems and which concepts are likely to appear again. It also gives us a chance to administer the exam to our students during our regular weekend mock tests.
So, if your child did not take the December 2019 ACT and is prepping for the February 8th ACT, he or she should sign up to take a mock test this weekend to practice on the most recent version of the ACT available anywhere. Press here to sign up now.
If your child did take the December 2019 ACT and is taking a future ACT, it would be a good idea to book an hour long review session with a Foley Prep Pro while the test is still somewhat fresh in the memory.
Some notable features of the December 2019 ACT:
The English section had a very generous curve, which means it was “difficult.” Six wrong answers scaled to a 35 on the English section. And yes, there were questions that required very careful analytical skills and knowledge of grammar rules that we inculcate in Foley Prep students.
The Math section had a few concepts that, while worthy of note, did not faze our students: the idea of a coordinate point lattice, relatively prime numbers, odds-in-favor, matrices, a hyperbola equation, and the Law of Cosines. None of these were particularly tricky or surprising to students who have completed the Foley Prep program.
The ACT Boot Camp is next week
Monday-Friday before every SAT and ACT, we run week-long boot camps in the evening. These are open to Foley Prep veteran students and newbies alike. They are a great way to get the final “shot in the arm” right before a test. If you are currently in the program, your sessions can be applied to the boot camp. Next week’s boot camps will be small size groups (3-5 kids) that you’ve come to expect at Foley, so they’re perfect for kids to feel a sense of momentum as they head into February 8th.
Thanks for your time. Please write back, call, or text if you have any questions at all.

All 1-on-1 appointments between February 20th and March 13th will be prepaid, non-changeable, and non-refundable. There will be no exceptions – even in cases of sickness or family emergency. Clients have until February 15th to change any booked appointments between February 20th-March 13th. It would be smart to call us by February 1st to make any reservations leading up to the March 14th SAT.
Students who cannot make semi-private tutoring sessions do not have a session deducted – we will simply take you off the roster.
Grow with us – we’re hiring!
The team is growing! This week we added Grace and JR to our full-time faculty, as well as Melissa, an accomplished English teacher who will be tutoring 5 days a week part-time.
Several more are interviewing, and if accepted, will go through a rigorous training process. We now have 18 full-time Foley Prep Pros, a full-time administrator, 26 part time instructors, and 7 locations. 70% have masters degrees, plus we have staff members with a J.D. from UCLA and an MBA from NYU that round out our management team. In 2019, we started offering healthcare benefits and are planning to offer 401(k) benefits this season.
We plan to add 3 more locations this year and 6-8 full-time instructors. If you know any recent college grads who want to become superstar teachers, please get them in touch with me. In my lifetime in for-profit and public education, I have trained more than 500 people to be excellent teachers (or find another line of work, lol).
